Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 7 Tennessee
2/28/2025 | Women's Tennis
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women's tennis kept No. 7 Tennessee on its toes all match, but fell short, 4-2, on Friday at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Facility.
The Rebels (7-4, 0-2 SEC) notched two ranked victories on the day between doubles and singles. In doubles, the Rebels held their ground on all three courts but fell short in a tiebreak to give the doubles point to the Volunteers (8-1, 2-0 SEC).
No. 89 Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher and Ludmila Kareisová did not waste any time on court one. The pair quickly defeated No. 56 Elza Tomase and Elim Yan in a dominant 6-1 statement. This marked the co-captains second ranked win of the year and first of the spring season.
Emily Welker and Brooklyn Olson battled back from a two-set deficit, to bring the doubles point down to a tiebreaker in the set. The Rebel and Volunteer duos had a response to each point earned, with a tied score for the first six points. Welker and Olson fell behind after Maeve Thornton and Vanesa Suarez claimed a four-point lead, leading to the Volunteers gaining the doubles point.
Going into singles down one, the Rebels continued to fight across all six courts. Alice Soulié brought the team back to life, after securing the Rebels first point of the day. The freshman dominated on court four, 6-3, 6-0. Soulié is 4-0 to start her Ole Miss career, with each of her wins coming in straight sets.
Petruzelova earned her first ranked victory of the season after facing No. 69 Leyla Britez-Risso. In true Rebel fashion, the senior soared through both sets, adding the Rebels' second point to the board after a 6-4, 6-3, final.
In a fight to the finish, both Nova and Karesiová forced a third set on their courts against ranked opponents. Nova ultimately dropped her match, leaving court two unfinished.
Two Rebels fell short on their respective courts, Welker against Tomase, 6-3, 6-0 and Rachel Krzyzak against Francesca Mattioli, 6-4, 6-4.
