No. 25 Men’s Basketball Completes Comeback at LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. – Trailing by 10 with 2:52 remaining, the No. 25 Ole Miss Rebels (18-6, 7-4 SEC) orchestrated a comeback to defeat LSU (12-11, 1-9 SEC) 72-70 at the buzzer. Dre Davis scored a season-high 22 points including the game winning tip in with 0.1 seconds on the clock.

The first half saw both teams shoot nearly 50.0 percent from the floor, as LSU took a 39-33 lead into the halftime break. LSU held a plus-five advantage on the glass over the first 20 minutes including seven offensive rebounds.
Sean Pedulla led the Rebels with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting as Dre Davis added eight points and 50.0 percent shooting in the first half.
LSU would continue to attack the paint, stretching their lead to 10 at the under 16 media timeout of the second half. Ole Miss would begin to chip away after a pair of Dre Davis field goals to cut the lead to 49-43, forcing an LSU timeout with 13:46 to play.
Davis brought the juice for the Rebels in the second half scoring 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting. He also managed 10 trips to the charity stripe converting six attempts.
The lead would be trimmed to four at the under 12 media after Sean Pedulla connected on a corner three for his fourth triple of the game. LSU would respond with a run of their own pushing the lead back to 10 with 5:12 left in regulation.
Ole Miss cut it to seven with 2:03 left after Jaemyn Brakefield made a pair at the charity stripe. The Rebels would force a turnover on the following LSU possession and a Brakefield layup would make it 70-65, with 1:41 left.
A defensive stand led to a transition opportunity where Sean Pedulla would draw contact and a foul, getting Ole Miss to the line once again. He would convert both attempts making it a three-point contest with just under 90 seconds to play.
Brakefield would cap a 13-2 Ole Miss run with a three-pointer, tying the game at 70 with 45 seconds remaining. Momentum continued as Pedulla would draw a charge on the defensive end in the next LSU possession, getting the ball back for Ole Miss.

Pedulla attacked the rim, getting a shot off that bounced just off the front of the rim. The man of the second half was there for the putback though, as Dre Davis tapped in the game winner with 0.1 on the clock, sealing the deal for the Rebels.
Davis finished with a season-high 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting, and grabbed seven rebounds. Four Rebels scored in double-figures as Ole Miss got to the line 29 times in the contest, converting 20 of their attempts.
Ole Miss will travel to the Palmetto State for a matchup at South Carolina (10-13, 0-10 SEC) on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network.

- Dre Davis set a new season-high with 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Davis had 14 in the second half including the game winning tip in with 0.1 on the clock. It marked his 13th game in double-figures and his third leading the team in scoring this season.
- Matthew Murrell tied a career-high with nine rebounds to lead Ole Miss on the glass.
- Four Rebels scored in double-figures: Davis (22), Sean Pedulla (17), Jaemyn Brakefield (11), and Matthew Murrell (10).
- Ole Miss closed the game on a 13-0 run. The Rebels held the Tigers scoreless over the final 3:15 of play after trailing 70-59 with 3:15 remaining.
