QUARTERFINALS VS. VIRGINIA
Three matches came down to the final hole, but Ole Miss dropped a closely contested match to 4th-seeded Virginia, 4-1 in the quarterfinals of the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play.
After Virginia took an early 2-0 match lead with victories at the No. 1 and 3 spots, Nicole Gal, Caitlyn Macnab and Kajsalotta Svarvar all found themselves locked in tight contests.
Svarvar picked up the lone win for the Rebels with a 1-up decision over Chloe Schiavone. Svarvar got off to a hot start, winning the first two holes and was 3-up thru seven. Schiavone rallied back to pull within one, but Svarvar was able to match the Hokie stroke-for-stroke over the final six holes to secure the win.
After falling 2-down thru seven holes to Virginia's Megan Propeck, Gal fought back to tie the match with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Gal would drop No. 6, but again was clutch with a birdie on the next hole to push the match to all square, where it stayed that way headed to the final hole. Propeck eventually made par and took the 1-up win.
Macnab jumped out to an early lead over Rebecca Skoler and after back-to-back wins at No. 14 and 15, found herself 3-up thru six. Skoler stormed back and responded with three straight wins at No. 5, 6 and 7 and eventually held on for a 1-up victory over Macnab.
