Women’s Golf Earns 3-2 Win Over No. 18 Auburn at Old Barnwell Derby Match Play

3/18/2025 | Women's Golf

AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 14 ranked Ole Miss women's golf team closed out play Tuesday at the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play with a 3-2 win over No. 18 Auburn.

The Rebels picked up wins from Kajsalotta Svarvar (2-up), Sophie Linder (3&1) and Caitlyn Macnab (1-up) to knock off the Tigers on the second and final day of the annual match play event in Aiken, South Carolina.

Svarvar continued her outstanding play at Old Barnwell as she defeated Anna Davis, the 32nd-ranked collegiate player in the country, 2-up. Svarvar, who finished play at Old Barnwell with a perfect 3-0 match play record, found herself down two holes early in the match, but battled to all square after back-to-back wins at No. 14 and 15. With a 1-up lead headed into the final hole, the freshman from Halmstad, Sweden, was able to make birdie to clinch the match for the Rebels.

Linder, a sophomore from Carthage, Tennessee, also found herself behind early, but was able to right the ship and defeat Auburn's Balma Davalos Guaita, 3&1. Davalos Guaita won the first two holes to jump out to a quick 2-up lead, but Linder rebounded with wins at No. 12 and 14. The match would go back and forth until the final few holes when Linder was able to win at No. 6 and No. 8 to tie the overall match at 2-2.

With all riding on the result of the last remaining match, Macnab stepped up for the Rebels and made birdie on the 18th and final hole to earn a 1-up victory and give the Rebels a 3-2 match win. Macnab only trailed for one hole on Tuesday and was able to hold off a late charge from Auburn's Rachel Gourley and eventually earn the win on No. 9.

Filippa Sundquist and Nicole Gal rounded out match play for the Rebels. Sundquist led Auburn's Carys Worby 2-up with three holes to go, but Worby rallied to earn the win in 19 holes. Gal, a junior from Oakville, Ontario, fell 4&2 to Katie Cranston.

Ole Miss will next prep for its regular season finale, March 28-30, at the Clemson Invitational.
