Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach: Walt Clingan

Kid Coach is a partnership between Children's of Mississippi and the Ole Miss Rebels to salute pediatric patients. Their inspirational stories remind us just how truly courageous these young people are.
This week's Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach is Walt Clingan of Madison, MS.
Walt was born with Trisomy 21, also known as Down syndrome, and a heart defect. He stayed in the neonatal intensive care unit at Children's of Mississippi for about 3 weeks when he was born.
Since then, he has had two open heart surgeries, a redo sternotomy, and several other minor procedures, all at the state's only children's hospital. His care team includes pediatric specialists in cardiology, ENT, genetics, endocrinology, child development, and ophthalmology.
Now a healthy, happy 12-year-old, Walt loves swimming, hanging out with his little sisters, and all things Ole Miss! He celebrates his birthday in November every year in the Grove on game day. He even made the 12+ hour drive to Omaha to see the Rebs win the national championship in 2022!
