Tom Fischer and Michael La Sasso Named SEC Men’s Golfers of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference has named Michael La Sasso and Tom Fischer SEC Men's Golfers of the Week. The duo each took home individual medalist honors this past Tuesday at the 2025 Old Waverly Collegiate Championship. Fischer and La Sasso both finished 13-under which tied the individual low-54 in OWCC tournament history.
Fischer shot a career-low 54-hole score of (203, -13), carding rounds of 65-67-71. He helped guide Ole Miss to their third victory of the season, the most wins by a Rebel team since the 2016-17 season. The 33-stroke victory marks the largest margin of victory by a team in program history. Fischer led the way for Ole Miss with a (65, -7) in round one, which tied the third-lowest individual round in OWCC history and tied for the best opening round score since 2017.
He guided the team to a first-round score of (265, -23) which marked the lowest team single round score in Old Waverly tournament history. Fischer also set the 36-hole player score record shooting (132) over the first two rounds. Ole Miss finished the tournament at 39-under, which set a new tournament low-54. The previous record was 20-under par by Georgia in 2021.
La Sasso won his second collegiate individual title alongside teammate Tom Fischer, carding rounds of 67-67-69. La Sasso now has 16 rounds in the 60s this season. The 16 rounds place him tied for second in program history for the most rounds in the 60s in a single season.
The junior from Raleigh, North Carolina won back in the fall at the Hamptons Intercollegiate (Oct. 7-8) for his first career individual title. He's the first Rebel since Jackson Suber in 2022 to record multiple individual wins in the same season.
La Sasso notches his second SEC accolade of the season after being tabbed Golfer of the Week back on October 9, 2024, following his win at Maidstone Club.
Ole Miss regained the No. 1 overall ranking on Wednesday, April 16. La Sasso is currently ranked the No. 2 individual in the Scoreboard Powered by Clippd Rankings and Fischer is currently ranked No. 33.
