Women’s Tennis Caps Run at SEC Championship

Auburn, Ala. – The Ole Miss Women's Tennis team's run in the SEC Championship fell short after Tennessee defeated the Rebels 4-1 on Thursday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The Rebels faced a strong Volunteers lineup in doubles, with all three courts in a tight race. Alice Soulié and Emily Welker fell short on court two, leaving the pressure for the two remaining.
Down to the wire, both teams kept the score close. Duo Brooklyn Olson and Andrea Nova fired back with a 6-4 win against Meave Thornton and Vanesa Suarez at court three. Ranked pair Ludmila Kareisova and Anaelle Leclercq-Ficher pushed the Volunteers on court one to a 6-6 tiebreak, but fell short to give the Volunteers an early advantage, 1-0.
In singles, Rachel Krzyzak put up an impressive fight of her own and soon put the Rebels on the board. The senior in the sixth slot defeated Maeve Thornton in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Ultimately, three Rebels fell to secure the match for Tennessee at courts two, four, and five.
Emily Welker and and Lucie Petruzelova both went unfinished on their respective courts; Welker against No. 7 Elza Tomase, 5-7, 6-4, 0-0 and Petruzelova verses Francesca Mattioli, 3-6, 7-5, 2-3.
