NFL DRAFT: Tre Harris Selected by Los Angeles Chargers in Second Round of 2025 NFL Draft

4/25/2025 | Football

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Ole Miss football senior wide receiver Tre Harris was selected 55th overall by the Los Angeles Chargers in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, which entered its second night of picks on Friday night.

Harris is the first Ole Miss receiver selected by the Chargers, and he joins an impressive list of Rebel pass catchers selected in the second round in recent years – including several who have gone on to great NFL success such as A.J. Brown (2019, Round 2, Pick 51) and D.K. Metcalf (2019, Round 2, Pick 64).

Harris spent two highly productive seasons as first-round selection Jaxson Dart's primary passing target, concluding his Ole Miss career with 114 receptions for 2,015 yards and 15 touchdowns across 20 games played and 19 starts. As a Rebel, Harris averaged 100.8 yards and 5.7 catches per game for 17.7 yards per reception – making him one of two in SEC history alongside Florida's Jabar Gaffney (103.3) with a career average of 100 yards receiving per game.

Harris concluded his time as a Rebel tied for second in 200-yard receiving games (2), fourth in 100-yard receiving games (10), tied for eighth in receiving touchdowns (15), 11th in receiving yards (2,015) and tied for 21st in receptions (114). Combined with his time at Louisiana Tech, Harris ended with a total career receiving line of 220 catches for 3,532 yards and 29 TD in 51 games played and 40 starts.

The Lafayette, Louisiana native was a crucial part of Ole Miss' record 11-win season in 2023 and was off to a historic start in 2024 before injuries cut his campaign short. Harris earned second-team All-America from the AP and was a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award last fall after leading the Rebels in receptions (60) and receiving yards (1,030) with seven touchdown catches and averages of 128.8 yards per game and 17.2 yards per catch.

Harris only needed eight games in 2024 to become the sixth Rebel to break 1,000 yards receiving in a season, with his 804 yards through five games ranked as the most of the College Football Playoff era and the most since Oregon State's Brandin Cooks in 2013 (807). Harris led the SEC in 30-yard receptions (12; No. 5 FBS) and was tied for the SEC lead in 40-yard catches (7; No. 4 FBS), while his 1,030 receiving yards ended up second in the SEC despite missing significant time due to injury.
