Miali Guachino Named to NFCA Freshman of the Year Top-25
4/25/2025 | Softball
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss softball's Miali Guachino has made history, as the freshman was selected to the NFCA National Freshman of the Year Top-25 list, as the organization announced on Friday.
Guachino becomes just the second Rebel to ever earn the honor since the award's inception, joining Hailey Lunderman in 2016. The freshman was one of eight selected to the prestigious list from the SEC.
The Pala, Calif., native has delivered an incredible freshman season in the circle, going 13-8 with a 2.89 ERA (118.2 IP) entering play this weekend and striking out 159 batters, which ranks third in the SEC and 20th in the nation. Her 159 strikeouts already rank fifth on the Rebels single season charts, while she also continues to lead the SEC in shutouts with six.
Guachino has etched her name all over the Rebel record books, beginning with her single-game record-breaking 19 strikeouts at Southern Miss on Feb. 13. Guachino ranks fourth on the single season charts at Ole Miss in shutouts and tied for 10th in wins. Her efforts earned her SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week honors on Mar. 18.
On May 8, the list will be trimmed to the top 10 and the three finalists will be released on May 22. The winner will be revealed on May 27.
Guachino and the Rebels welcome No. 1 Tennessee to Oxford for a three-game series this weekend. Action begins on Friday at 6 p.m. CT.
