5/10/2025 | Baseball
CHICAGO – A third Ole Miss Rebel is set to make their Major League Baseball debut as Tim Elko has been called up to join the Chicago White Sox in Chicago for their series against the Miami Marlins. Elko will join Doug Nikhazy and Gunnar Hoglund in the group of Rebels to make their debut in 2025.
Elko will be the 56th Rebel in program history to reach the big leagues.
Elko has furiously climbed his way through the minor league ranks since being drafted in 2022. In 325 career professional games, he is hitting .293 with 61 home runs, 58 doubles, and 218 RBI. He has played in just 31 games this season with Triple-A Charlotte and has already hit 10 home runs and driven in 23 runs with a scorching .348 batting average. He leads the entire Minor Leagues in home runs and has the fifth-highest batting average across all levels.
In five seasons with the Rebels, Elko was a career .293 hitter with a slugging percentage of .642 and 46 total home runs. He is the current Ole Miss single-season home run record holder, hitting 24 long balls during the 2022 season. His 46 career home runs are the second-most all time, just two short of the record held by Kyle Gordon.
Elko was an essential piece of the 2022 National Championship team, leading the team in multiple offensive categories. He hit .300 with 24 home runs, 75 RBI, and 63 runs scored in 65 games for the Rebels. The first baseman was named an All-American by the NCBWA, to the ABCA All-South Region team, the MVP of the Coral Gables Regional, and to the College World Series All-Tournament team at the end of the year.
Elko was drafted by the White Sox in the 10th round of the 2022 MLB Draft.
