Gabi Placide Named SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss volleyball junior Gabi Placide has been named the SEC's Co-Offensive Player of the Week, as the conference announced on Monday.
Placide shares the honor with Kentucky's Eva Hudson. It marks the first such honor of Placide's career since joining the Rebels. Additionally, she becomes the first Rebel to take home SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors since Sasha Ratliff in 2021.
A native of Centennial, Colo., Placide had a massive week to help propel the Rebels to four victories over Memphis, Incarnate Word, Texas Tech and UAlbany. Placide exploded for 82 kills and hit .296, while adding 24 digs and 15 blocks. Placide averaged 5.86 kills per set and 6.75 points per set, while also averaging over a block per set and 1.71 digs per set.
Placide set a career-high with 26 kills in a key road victory over Texas Tech, but promptly followed it up with a new career-high the next day, tallying 27 kills in a victory over UAlbany. Her 94.5 points accounted for nearly 35 percent of the Rebels points over the week. Additionally, her two performances against UAlbany and Texas Tech rank as the second and third most kills in a four-set match by an SEC athlete this season.
Her efforts have propelled her to ninth in the nation in points per set (5.45) and the SEC lead in total points (223.5).
Placide and the Rebels are set to return to action on Friday, Sept. 26 as they open SEC play at Arkansas. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
