Men’s Tennis Jake Jacoby Wins First Career Double-Header as Head Coach

OXFORD, Miss. – Jake Jacoby leads men's tennis to victory on Friday, for the Rebels defeated both Alabama Birmingham and North Alabama to begin their Spring season at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center.
MATCH ONE: Ole Miss 6, UAB 1
The Rebels (2-0) came out hot, securing the doubles point to get on the board early against the Blazers. The No.11 duo of Isac Strömberg and Kai Milburn took control early with a 6-3, win against UAB's Ondrej Valek and Juan Pablo Valdez. Notching the Rebels' first win of their spring season, along with Coach Jake Jacoby's first career win as the Ole Miss Head Coach.
The Rebel pairing of Matthieu Chambonniere and Benjamin Martin dominated against UAB's duo of Hoan Mouret and Jake Anthony as they won, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point. With the win, Chambonniere secured his 20th career doubles victory.
In Singles, Noah Schlagenhauf dominated in the first set, getting off to a hot 6-0 start. From there, he continued to roll with a 6-3 second set to win the match to secure the Rebels' first single point of the spring campaign.
Vlado Jankanj's debut in the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center was one to remember. The Freshman defeated his opponent, Conor Flynn, 6-2, 6-2, to secure another point for the Rebels.
On court five, Strömberg faced UAB's Hoan Mouret. The Stockholm, Sweden, native secured the first set 6-0. The senior ultimately fell short in set two, dropping the set 1-6. In the third set Strömberg brought the heat, earning a 6-0 win to capture the match point clinching the match for the Rebels.
Benjamin Martin started his sophomore spring campaign with a commanding victory for the Rebels against UAB's Tomas Tischner, 6-2, 6-4.
Chambonniere faced off against UAB's Juan Pablo Valdez on court one. The Rebel dominated against his opponent, etching a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) win to start out his 2026 spring campaign.

After a dominant performance against UAB, the Rebels looked to find more success in the afternoon against the North Alabama Lions.
The Rebels once again clinched the doubles point and continued to dismantle their opponents in singles play.
Strömberg and Milburn paved the way for the Rebels on the doubles court, earning a 6-1 dominant win against North Alabama's ranked pair of No.73 Alberto Altur and Izan Orgiles.
Chambonniere and Martin fought hard but ultimately fell short to North Alabama's duo of Benjamin Meyers and Alex Despoja.
D'Agostino and Pampanin got the momentum back for the Rebels on court two, securing a 7-5 victory against their opponents to clinch the doubles point for Ole Miss.
In Singles, the sophomore found his groove early on court five. Martin had a dominant 6-1, 6-11, win against North Alabama's Austin Miramontes to put the Rebels up, 2-0, and secure his second win of the day.
On court six, Strömberg secured a 6-2 first-set win against UAB's Benjamin Meyers. From there, he continued by securing a 6-4 second-set win, putting Ole Miss up 3-0.
Pampanin stayed patient and came out victorious, 6-3, 6-2, against No. 111 Alberto Altur on court three, clinching the match for the Rebels. This is the freshman's first career spring victory, along with his highest-ranked victory.
Although the Rebels already secured the match, Ole Miss and North Alabama continued to play out the rest of the singles courts.
Chambonniere kept the Rebels rolling with another dominant performance, getting the victory against Izan Orgiles 6-2, 6-3.
Jankanj notched a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4) victory on court four against his opponent, Alex Despoja, to give the Rebels another point.
D'Agostino finished it off for the Rebels with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 win against Lachlan Brain to put the final point on the board for the Rebels, fashioning the final score, 7-0.
Ole Miss will return home to host Furman for a doubleheader in Oxford, Miss. On Jan. 17, the Rebels' first match will start at 11 p.m. CT.
