Men’s Tennis Begins its 100th Season With Pair of Double Headers

OXFORD, Miss.  –  Ole Miss men's tennis will begin its 100th season with two doubleheaders at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center this weekend. 

First-year head coach Jake Jacoby will look to secure his first win as head coach for the Rebels this weekend, with the first opportunity being a double header, against UAB on Friday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. CT. In the second match of the doubleheader, the Rebels will face off against North Alabama at 4 p.m.

The Rebels will then have a quick turnaround, for they take on Furman on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 11 a.m. and then again at 3 p.m. CT for its second double header of the weekend.

The Rebels come into the season with two ranked doubles pairings. The first duo is No.11 Isac Strömberg and Kai Milburn, followed by No.20 Loan Lestir and Matthieu Chambonniere.

This past fall, the Ole Miss men's tennis doubles pairing of Strömberg and Milburn came off an ITA Southern Doubles Regional Championship. Later in the fall, Strömberg and Milburn secured a first-round win at the NCAA Doubles Championships to advance to the Round of 16.

RETURNING REBELS  
Ole Miss has seven returning players from last year's team. Isac Strömberg returns to the Rebels after earning 12 singles wins during the 2025 season. Another returner, Schlagenhauf, earned 10 doubles victories during the 2025 campaign. Along with them, sophomore standout Matthieu Chambonniere finished the season with a 23-7 singles record.  

FRESH FACES  
The Rebels bring in three freshmen to the roster this offseason. All three are ranked in the ITA Newcomer rankings, D'Agostino ranked No. 7, Jankanj ranked No. 14 and Pampanin ranked No. 17.  

THE REBELS 
   
Matthieu Chambonniere (So.) – Paris, France    
- Finished the 2024 season with a 23-7 singles record and a 14-15 doubles record    
- Earned the most wins in singles and doubles by any Rebel during the season   
- First Rebel Freshman to earn 20 singles wins since 2020-21 season   
- Ranked as high as No. 67 in the ITA doubles rankings   
- Tallied 16 singles victories in dual matches    
- Secured a Rebel best seven singles wins in conference play    

Stefano D'Agostino (Fr.) – Arco, Italy   
- Ranked as high as No.2 in the ITF singles ranking in August 2024  
- Earned ATP career-high rankings of No.742 in doubles and No. 782 in singles  

Vlado Jankanj (Fr.) – Belgrade, Serbia   
- Holds an ATP career-high singles ranking of No. 1074  
- Secured first juniors title, winning the J60 Maribor tournament in Slovenia  
- Notched a 71% win rate in his ITF men's career, earing 25 wins over the past two years  

Loan Lestir(So.) – Lille, France    
- Secured a 14-12 Singles record in his rookie season   
- Tallied a team-high 10 singles dual wins  
-Captured six SEC singles victories   
- Clinched match against Memphis in collegiate dual debut   

Benjamin Martin (So.) – Nort-sur-Erdre, France   
- Notched 11 single victories   
- Earned 13 wins in doubles play   
- Tied a team-high nine dual doubles wins   

Kai Milburn (So.) – Queenstown, New Zealand    
- Compiled an 8-2 record in singles   
- Secured seven dual wins in doubles, six on court 1   
- Played primarily on court No. 6 in singles and court No. 1 in doubles    
- Captured two conference victories on the doubles court    
-Ranked as high as No. 51 in the ITA doubles rankings with Isac Strömberg   

Pietro Pampanin (Fr.) – Trieste, Italy    
- Won M15 Getxo doubles title to secure first ITF World Tennis Tour victory    
- Strung together 18 ITF points across two years    
- Earned ITF career-high singles ranking of No. 24    
- Notched an ATP career-best doubles ranking of No. 813   

Noah Schlagenhauf(Sr.) – Nuertingen, Germany   
- Earned a 17-19 overall singles record, primarily in the No. 1 spot  
- Earned 10 doubles victories during the 2025 campaign   

Isac Strömberg (Sr.) – Stockholm, Sweden    
- Earned 12 singles wins during the 2025 season   
- Notched a 14-12 doubles record    
- Primarily played in the No. 3 spot in singles and No. 1 slot for doubles    
- Captured two conference wins on the doubles court   
- Ranked as high as No. 51 in ITA doubles rankings with Kai Milburn
- Boasts three top 30 ranked wins in doubles   

Gordon Whitwell (Sr.) – Oxford, Mississippi    
- Finished the season with an overall 4-4 record in singles and 3-2 record in doubles   
- Primarily played on court six for singles and doubles    
- Had a perfect 3-0 record in dual singles matches  

TEAM PROFILE: UAB 
Matt Coomer is in his second season at the helm for UAB. In Coomer's first season, the Blazers finished with an 8-14 record. Coomer previously served as the head coach for the Indiana Tech men's and women's tennis programs. Before his time with the Warriors, Coomer spent time as the head coach at IU Southeast and at Centenary College. The Blazers are led by Conor Flynn and Juan Pablo Valdez. The duo won the Louisville Red Bracket fall tournament in doubles earlier in September. 

TEAM PROFILE: NORTH ALABAMA 
Aitor Reparaz is in his fourth season with the University of North Alabama tennis program in 2025-26, including three as the men's tennis coach. Reparaz took North Alabama to its first Division I ITA ranking on Feb. 25, 2025, at No. 74, later adding ranks of No. 72, No. 69 and No. 68. UNA achieved a 20-4 record during the 2025 regular season, which finished as the most single-season wins in the Division I era and most since the 1988 season. The Lions also went unbeaten against conference competition, going 8-0 in the regular season and 2-0 during the ASUN Tournament. The Lions are led by Junior sensation No.111 Alberto Altur. For doubles, the Lions are led by the No.73 duo of Altur and Izan Orgilese. 

TEAM PROFILE: FURMAN 
John (J.J.) Whitlinger is in his 11th season with the Furman men's tennis program and seventh as head coach. During his stint as head coach, Whitlinger, who led the Paladins to the finals of the SoCon Championship in his first two seasons at the helm of the program, has amassed a 68-67 overall record and 25-12 Southern Conference mark. The 2024-25 campaign saw Furman return to the finals of the SoCon Men's Tennis Championship for the first time since 2018-19. The Paladins are led by Walker Allen, who won a team-high 13 singles matches in the 2024-25 season.
