Women’s Tennis Comeback Comes up Short against No. 17 South Carolina
2/28/2026 | Women's Tennis
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Despite leading early, No. 32 Ole Miss fell, 4-3, against No. 17 South Carolina on Saturday afternoon at the Carolina Tennis Center.
After coming back from being down 3-1, the score was knotted up at 3-3, and all eyes were on court four, where Ole Miss's Andrea Nova was in a tightly contested match against Taylor Goetz. The two were locked into a match that turned into a marathon, with each having won a set 7-5.
In the third set, Nova would get out in front 4-3 through the first seven game points. However, Goetz responded by outscoring Nova 4-1 through the next five game points to win the final set, 7-5, thwarting the Ole Miss comeback.
Ole Miss (6-3, 1-2 SEC) started by capturing the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead against South Carolina (8-3, 1-2 SEC).
In singles, momentum shifted in favor of the Gamecocks as Owen Wilkinson had to retire from her match against Jana Stojanova, forfeiting a point to the home team, which evened the score at 1-1. Soon after, the Rebels dropped two more singles courts to further the deficit with the Gamecocks leading, 3-1.
However, Ole Miss wouldn't go down without a fight, for Brooklyn Olson defeated Sara Borkop, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. Meanwhile, freshman Riley Crowder was in a battle on court five, for she went to a third-set tiebreaker that she won 7-6 (7-3), against Jane Dunyon to tie the match up at 3-3.
