Pickens Launches Grand Slam to Power Softball Past ULM
3/1/2026 | Softball
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss softball program built an early advantage and never looked back, defeating ULM, 5-1 to wrap up the Ole Miss Classic on Sunday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.
The Rebels (16-5, 0-0) were powered by a grand slam from Mackenzie Pickens and a complete game gem in the circle from Emilee Boyer to power past the Warhawks (13-9, 0-0 Sun Belt).
The Rebels opened quickly, tallying two hits and walk in the first inning, but were unable to score. However, the Rebels would jump ahead for good in the second inning.
A Taylor Roman single and back-to-back walks from Grace Thompson and Laylonna Applin loaded the bases for Taylor Malvin. Malvin placed a ball right up the middle for an RBI single to make it 1-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Rebels were kick started by Roman's second hit of the day. Thompson drew another walk and Malvin singled to load the bases for Pickens. The sophomore tagged an 0-1 pitch over the wall in left field for a grand slam, increasing the lead to 5-0.
Meanwhile, Boyer cruised through the first four innings without allowing a hit, while striking out five. While the Warhawks broke up the no-hit bid in the fifth inning, Boyer promptly generated her second double play of the day to get through five shutout innings.
Boyer continued to respond to adversity in the sixth inning by getting out of a two-on, no-out situation in prompt fashion. While the Warhawks managed to hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to make it 5-1, Boyer never wavered and polished off an eight-strikeout performance and complete game victory.
The Rebels continue the homestand on Tuesday, hosting UT Martin for a doubleheader that begins at 2 p.m. CT. Both games will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
