OXFORD, Miss. โ The Ole Miss softball program rallied from a four-run deficit, but were unable to complete the comeback, falling 7-5 to No. 13 Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium. ย

The Rebels (26-17, 2-12 SEC) outhit the Aggies (29-12, 10-4 SEC) and tallied three home runs, but were unable to hold off the visitors, who tallied two runs in the fifth inning to go ahead for good.

Texas A&M took the early lead with an RBI sacrifice fly in the opening frame, but pitcher Emilee Boyer limited further damage and allowed the Rebels time to come back. In the second inning, Cassie Reasner immediately tied the game with a solo home run to make it 1-1.

The Aggies responded with a four-run third inning, headlined by a three-run home run from Kelsey Mathis. However, the Rebels were not deterred by the early deficit and slowly chipped away.

Kennedy Bunker jumped on the first pitch she saw in the bottom half of the third inning to launch a solo home run and cut the lead to 5-2. The Rebels ultimately stranded two runners in scoring position in the inning, but would not relent.

In the fourth inning, Ryan Starr led off the frame with a single and Mackenzie Pickens created some two-out magic with a roped double to left center field to score Starr and make it 5-3. Next up was Llamas, who jumped on a mistake from Aggies pitcher Grace Sparks to blast a two-run home run and tie the game at 5-5.

The Aggies would jump back ahead in the fifth inning, thanks to several walks and collision on the base paths that allowed two runs to come home on a grounder. However, Boyer recovered to hold Texas A&M off the board from there.

The Rebels made one final rally attempt in the seventh inning, as Llamas singled and Madi George walked. From there, their pinch runners got into scoring position on a groundout. However, the Aggies managed to secure a back-pick at second base to secure the final out and strand the tying run at second base.

The Rebels will complete the three-game set against the Aggies on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
