Men’s Tennis Beats Tennessee to Advance to Second Round of SEC Tournament

OXFORD, Miss. – After clinching a tight doubles point, Ole Miss would win three straight singles courts to defeat the 15th-seeded Tennessee, 4-0, on Wednesday afternoon to advance to the Second Round of the SEC Tournament.
As the Rebels led 3-0, it would be the Arco, Italy, native No. 81 Stefano D'Agostino who would deliver the clinching blow for the Rebels. After winning the first set, 6-4, he would cruise by Jose Garcia again in the second set, 6-4, to send Ole Miss to the Second Round.
The win marked Ole Miss's (19-8, 6-8 SEC) eighth match sweep of the season and second against Tennessee (10-18, 1-13 SEC). It also marked Jake Jacoby's first SEC Tournament win as head coach of the Rebels.
The doubles point would come down to the final court, for Alejandro Moreno and Piotr Siekanowicz defeated No. 26 Isac Stromberg and Kai Milburn, 6-3. Not long after, the pairing of Matthieu Chambonniere and Benjamin Martin defeated Woodson McMillin and Ethan Muza, 6-4.
Putting the doubles point in the hands of D'Agostino and Pietro Pampanin, who were facing off against Jose Garcia and Shion Itsusaki. The final court would go into a tiebreaker, with D'Agostino and Pampanin prevailing, 7-6 (7-4) to clinch the doubles point for Ole Miss.
In singles play, the Rebels would ride their momentum, for Noah Schlagenhauf quickly defeated Shion Itsusaki, 6-1, 6-4, to give the Rebels a 2-0 advantage. Then, Loan Lestir would follow, defeating Piotr Siekanowicz, 6-3, 6-4, setting up D'Agostino for the clinch.
Ole Miss will continue to the Second Round of the SEC Tournament on Thursday, April 16, at 2 p.m. in College Station, Texas, where it will take on No. 13 and 7th-seeded South Carolina.
