OXFORD, Miss. – No. 24 Ole Miss Men's Tennis took down No. 48 Tennessee handedly, 4-0, on Saturday at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center.
Although the Rebels (17-7, 5-7 SEC) shut out Tennessee (10-16, 1-12 SEC), the game-clinching fourth point came down to a few nail-biting singles matches.
In doubles, the Rebels got the early advantage, with Matthieu Chambonniere and Benjamin Martin getting a 6-0 win over Woodson McMillin and Ethan Muza. Stefano D'Agostino and Pietro Pampanin soon followed with a 6-3 victory to the seal the doubles point for the Rebels.
No. 24 Kai Milburn and Isac Stromberg faced Alejandro Moreno and Piotr Siekanowicz, and were up 5-3, needing only one more point to win the match as they were up 40-0 in their last game. D'Agostino and Pampanin would beat them to it, and the match would go unfinished.
Moving into singles, Vlado Jankanj took down Shion Itusaki in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. No. 77 D'Agostino got on the board next for the Rebels, defeating Jose Garcia, 6-3, 6-4.
