Hopps Return to Oxford to Rejoin Women’s Basketball Staff
5/11/2026 | Women's Basketball
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women's basketball head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin continues to strengthen the Rebel family, bringing back some familiar faces in Zachary Hopp as an Assistant Coach and Ashton Hopp as the Coordinator of Operations, the program announced on Monday. The husband and wife duo are joined in Oxford with their daughter Beverly Faith.
ZACHARY HOPP – ASSISTANT COACH
Hopp returns to Oxford after spending one season at Arkansas State, serving as the Director of Analytics and Strategy for the men's basketball program. While in Jonesboro, Hopp assisted in leading the Red Wolves to an impressive 20-12 record and an 11-7 conference season. He also helped Arkansas State's leading scorer Christian Harmon, who received All-Sun Belt Third Team honors.
"Zachary returning to Oxford in the role as an assistant coach is an excellent addition to our staff," said McPhee-McCuin. "Along with bringing a deep familiarity with our program from his previous time with us, he has a sharp, analytical basketball mind and a tremendous passion for the game. Just as important, Zachary has outstanding character and will help in developing our players at a championship level on and off the court."
Prior to his time with the Red Wolves, Hopp spent three seasons at Ole Miss, including two as coordinator of operations for scouting and analytics. He was vital in the Rebels' success those three seasons, helping Ole Miss win 22-plus games every season, and earning three NCAA Tournament berths with two Sweet 16 appearances.
Before heading to Oxford for his first stint at Ole Miss, Hopp spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant basketball coach with Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. Washburn handed 4-time National Champion Northwest Missouri State, two of their lone three losses over the past one hundred games during his first season. This included a 2021 MIAA Tournament championship. The Ichabods advanced to the NCAA Tournament during both seasons.
From 2018-2020, Hopp served as a women's basketball student manager at the University of Kansas. Hopp also assisted in organizing and managing events from recruiting, team meals, travel, banquets, golf tournaments, and the Brandon Schneider Basketball Camps.
He gained even more valuable experience in 2019 working with Athletes in Action as an assistant coach. Hopp collaborated with Roger Powell Jr., Wayne Simien, and Bill Peterson on their AIA trip to Israel. This allowed him a unique chance to develop overseas basketball knowledge, preparation, practice, and leadership qualities.
Each summer since 2016, Hopp has worked with a team during The Basketball Tournament (TBT) on ESPN, the $2 Million, Winner-Take-All tournament. In 2016 and 2017, he served as the social media coordinator for Team FOE led by Marcus Morris, Markieff Morris, and Thomas Robinson. In 2017, he also edited video for The Stickmen's staff including Michael Rapaport, NBA coaches, and other professional basketball players. The Stickmen then returned to their original name Eberlein Drive in 2018. From 2018-2022, Hopp has served as an assistant coach for Eberlein Drive that has included appearances to the championship game, Super 16, and Elite 8. In 2021, Hopp coached alongside three NBA experienced coaches Cody Toppert, Matt Brase, and Justin Wetzel. The drive led the entire tournament in PPG at 90.7, FG% at 56.7%, and 3PT% at 52.3%.
Hopp graduated from the University of Kansas in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in sport management and a minor in business.
"I'm so thankful for this opportunity to return to the Sip," said Hopp. "Coach Yo means the world to me. I fully believe in her vision for this program. Coach Yo is as good as it gets when it comes to running a program, development, and pouring into young women. I am excited to see this program reach new heights."
ASHTON HOPP – COORDINATOR OF OPERATIONS
Hopp returns to Oxford after spending one season as the Director of Basketball Operations for Arkansas State men's basketball, overseeing day-to-day operations of the program, including travel, equipment, and camps.
"I am pleased to have Ashton return to Oxford," said McPhee-McCuin. "She brings a level of professionalism and familiarity that immediately strengthens our daily operations. Having previously served on our staff, she possesses a deep understanding of our program's standards and core values. We are fortunate to have her servant leadership mindset and her attention to detail as additions as we continue to elevate our program."
Prior to her time in Jonesboro, Hopp spent three seasons with Ole Miss women's basketball as a graduate assistant for two seasons, then the special assistant to the head coach in 2024-25. During each of her three seasons in Oxford, the Rebels won 22-plus games with a total of 71 wins and three NCAA Tournament berths, twice reaching the Sweet 16. Hopp also spent time working with FCA in the Ole Miss area as a campus rep.
Spending two years as a graduate manager with the Rebels, Hopp helped develop and build the undergraduate student-manager program as well as assist the coordinator of operations with all of the daily duties of the program. She also handled all equipment and gear for the Rebels as well.
A former student manager for the Kansas men's basketball program, Hopp spent two seasons with the Jayhawk program. Hopp helped with all food operations during the 2020-21 season and was solely responsible with dinner operations for the team. She assisted with various other tasks including practices, game day operations as well as equipment and gear.
In 2020, Hopp built and co-founded Grow the Game with Jake Cerota, former Clemson MBB Student Manager. Grow the Game provides college basketball student managers with free resources and opportunities in professional development and networking to kickstart their careers. Those resources include the Manager Connection, Graduate Assistant Pathway, Summer Development Cohorts, Final Four Events and more. What started as an idea over text message between two student basketball managers has grown into an established non-profit making a positive impact on hundreds of student managers' lives.
A native of Waynesville, Mo., Hopp graduated from Kansas in 2021 with a degree in sport management and a minor in business.
"Grateful the Lord has brought my family and me back to Ole Miss," said Hopp. "There's no question that Oxford is home for us, and I'm honored to work alongside Coach Yo again. Coach Yo is the best in the business, and I believe this program is a national championship contender. I'm ready to serve in whatever way I can to help us compete at the highest level."
