Volleyball Rallies for Electric Win Over Southeastern Louisiana
8/28/2026 | Volleyball
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss volleyball program opened the 2026 season with a bang, rallying to secure a reverse sweep of Southeastern Louisiana, 3-2, on Friday night at the Gillom Athletics Performance Center.
The Rebels (1-0, 0-0 SEC) secured the program's first reverse sweep since last season's win over Alabama, recovering to defeat the Lions (0-1, 0-0 SLC). Shayla Meyer led the charge on offense, exploding for 20 kills and nine digs on .357 hitting, while Jorda Crook added 19 kills, six digs and three service aces.
Freshman Jaidyn Hartsfield delivered a spark off the bench in her official collegiate debut, tallying 10 kills, while Cameron Bradley exploded for a career-high 29 digs in the win.
Ole Miss got out to a fast start taking an early 4-1 lead with Crook tallying back-to-back kills. However, the set would quickly tighten up, in what featured 16 ties within the frame. The Rebels would create some wiggle room, going on a 3-0 run to earn multiple set points, beginning at 24-23. However, the Lions were able to withstand three set points, ultimately recovering to steal the opening set 28-26.
After hitting nearly .300 in the opening set, the Rebel offense faced adversity in the second, as neither side got off to strong starts. The Rebels found themselves playing catchup for the majority of the set, as the Lions capitalized on serving mistakes to eventually pull away with a 25-17 win.
With their backs against the wall, the Rebels regrouped and found a rhythm. Hartsfield came off the bench to make her collegiate debut and promptly struck for her first kill en route to an early 8-3 advantage. The Rebels continued to find their attacking presence, as Crook and Meyer continued to be heavily involved. The Lions were able to push the score back to 19-16, but several service errors and a key block from Hartsfield helped the Rebels secure the third set, 25-19.
Despite the surge back from the Rebels, the Lions jumped out to the early 8-4 lead in the fourth, putting more pressure on the hosts. Crook delivered an immediate answer, registering a kill and back-to-back aces to swing the tide back in the Rebels favor. Ole Miss worked all the way back to take a 13-12 advantage as Hartsfield took over. The freshman registered six kills in the set, leading the Rebels on a back-breaking 5-0 run to put the set out of reach and ultimately win, 25-19.
Much like the fourth set, the Lions delivered early pressure with a 5-2 advantage. The stingy Rebels fought back immediately with a 5-0 run, behind terrific defense and a rare kill from Bradley to make it 7-5. From there, the Rebels turned back to the veterans, as Crook and Meyer combined for seven kills to put away the win, 15-12.
The Rebels are back in action tomorrow for the second of three matches in the Ole Miss Volleyball Invitational. The Rebels will face off against Northern Arizona on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
