Volleyball Squad Falls To Georgia, 3-1

ATHENS, Ga.--Despite outstanding individual performances by senior Lauren Dorcheus and sophomore Abby Hollander, the Ole Miss Lady Rebel volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Southeastern Conference rival Georgia on the road Sunday afternoon.
Ole Miss falls to 8-9 overall and 0-5 in the SEC, extending its conference losing streak to 14 games. Georgia improved to 6-8 overall and moved to .500 in the SEC at 3-3.
Lady Rebel team captain Lauren Dorcheus recorded her seventh double digit kill mark of 1999 with 11 kills, one error on 19 attempts for a .526 hitting percentage, her fifth .500-plus match this season. In addition to her offensive numbers, she also added seven digs and five blocks.
Defensively, Ole Miss was led by sophomore Abby Hollander had a career high 11 blocks against the Lady Bulldogs, marking the first double digit block total of the season for Ole Miss and the first of her career.
With Hollander's 11 total blocks, seven by sophomore Leigh Rittiner and five by Dorcheus, the Lady Rebels recorded 16 total team blocks, a season high, surpassing the 15 blocks against Eastern Illinois.
In the match, Georgia jumped out early, winning games one and two, 15-7 and 15-9, before the Lady Rebels charged back, winning the third game 15-11, extending the match to four games. The Lady Rebels could not hold on to force a decisive fifth game against the Lady Bulldogs despite recording 18 kills in game four, their highest of the match.
The Lady Bulldogs continued their winning ways against the Lady Rebels, dating back to 1983, the last Ole Miss victory over Georgia. The Lady Bulldogs now hold the 28-4 all-time series advantage.
Ole Miss will continue to look for its first conference victory next weekend as it hosts Kentucky on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Tennessee on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Kentucky leads the all-time series 20-6, while Tennessee holds the series advantage 19-4. Ole Miss last defeated Kentucky in 1997, but has not beaten Tennessee since 1995.
