REBELS TO PLAY 100TH TV GAME SATURDAY
Saturday's game with Alabama, which will be televised by CBS at 2:30 p.m., will mark Ole Miss' 100th TV appearance. The Rebels first appeared on network TV in the 1953 Sugar Bowl against Georgia Tech. Ole Miss is 45-52-2 all-time in TV games, including 1-1 this season. The Rebels lost to Vanderbilt 37-34 in overtime on Sept. 18 in Oxford and defeated Auburn 24-17 in overtime on Sept. 25 with a goal line stand in the extra session. Both of those games were carried by Jefferson Pilot.

This will be the Rebels' 10th appearance on CBS and their first since Oct. 4, 1997 against Tennessee in Knoxville, a game in which the Volunteers won 31-17 when current Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe was Tennessee's offensive coordinator. Ole Miss is 4-5 in CBS games.

Saturday's game will mark the 12th time the Rebels and Crimson Tide have battled before a TV audience, with Alabama having won nine of the previous 11 meetings.

During the decade of the 1990s, Ole Miss is 16-20 in television games.

REBELS CLIMB TO NO. 22
After Saturday's 20-13 win over Tulane, Ole Miss climbed three spots in the latest ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll to No. 22. The Rebels also check into this week's Associated Press Top 25 with a No. 22 ranking. Ole Miss entered the national rankings last week at No. 22 in the ESPN/USA Today poll after defeating South Carolina, 36-10, in Columbia, S.C. The Rebels received 95 votes in last week's AP Top 25 to finish tops 'Among Others Receiving Votes.'

Alabama is ranked No. 11 in The Associated Press Top 25 and is No. 13 in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25.

REBELS OFF TO BEST START SINCE 1991
Ole Miss' 5-1 start matches the Rebels' best six-game start since starting 5-1 in 1991. A win Saturday over Alabama would give Ole Miss its best seven-game start at 6-1 since 1990 when Ole Miss also started 6-1 en route to a 9-3 record and an appearance in the Gator Bowl.

Ole Miss has started 5-1 15 times previously in its history and has gone on to post a winning record 14 times. The only time the Rebels started 5-1 and failed to post a winning season was in 1991. Since 1954, the Rebels have had six previous 5-1 starts and have advanced to bowl games five times.

OLE MISS LOOKING FOR FIRST FOUR-GAME WIN STREAK SINCE 1992
Saturday against Alabama, Ole Miss will be aiming for its four-game winning streak in the same year since 1992 when the Rebels reeled off five-straight wins. During the five-game streak in 1992, Ole Miss defeated LSU (32-0), Memphis State (17-12), Louisiana Tech (13-6), Mississippi State (17-10) and then went on to beat Air Force (13-0) in the Liberty Bowl. A win Saturday would also give the Rebels four consecutive SEC wins for the first time since 1990 when they defeated Kentucky (35-29), Georgia (28-12), Vanderbilt (14-13) and LSU (19-10).

Rebels In The 'Red' Zone
When the offense moves the ball inside the opponent's 20-yard line, the offense is considered to be in the 'red zone,' and in prime scoring position. The following chart shows how the Rebel offense has performed inside the 'red zone' this season:

CUTCLIFFE AMONG ELITE LIST
This past Saturday's 20-13 win over Tulane tied first-year head coach David Cutcliffe for the best seven-game start by a coach in school history with C.D. Clark and Harry J. Mehre at 6-1 (Cutcliffe's record includes last December's 35-18 win over Texas Tech in the Sanford Independence Bowl). Clark guided Ole Miss to a 6-1 record in his only year as coach in 1894, and Mehre went 6-1 in his first seven games as Ole Miss' head coach in 1938. With a win over Alabama Saturday, Cutcliffe can join Mehre as the only two Ole Miss coaches to start their Rebel careers at 7-1.

SMOKIN' GUNN
Sophomore RB Joe Gunn (Amory, Miss.) rushed for 120 yards on 26 carries this past Saturday against Tulane - including 113 in the second half - to record his second-straight 100-yard rushing performance and his fourth of the season. It was also Gunn's sixth career 100-yard rushing game to tie him with Cory Philpot (1991-92) for fourth-place on the Ole Miss career list (see the Rebel Record Book on page 4). Gunn ran for 114 yards in the season-opener against Memphis on Sept. 4 and recorded 155 yards the following week against Arkansas State. He tallied 127 yards on 16 carries at South Carolina on Oct. 2. The Rebels are 4-0 this season when Gunn rushes for at least 100 yards.

For the season, Gunn ranks second in the SEC in rushing 637 yards on 124 carries for an average of 5.1 yards per carry with three TDs. His 637 yards surpasses his last season total of 546 yards in which he set an Ole Miss freshman rushing record. Gunn is also second in the SEC in all-purpose yards with 782.

MILLER TIES RECORD
Junior QB Romaro Miller (Shannon, Miss.) threw for 227 yards against Tulane to tie Kent Austin (1981-85) for the most career 200-yard passing games in school history with 11 (see the Rebel Record Book on page 4). The 227-yard performance was also the Rebel signal-caller's fourth 200-yard passing game of the season. He threw for 253 yards against Arkansas State on Sept. 11, 245 yards versus Vanderbilt on Sept. 18, and 242 yards against Auburn on Sept. 25. With one more 200-yard passing game, Miller can become the first Ole Miss quarterback to record at least five 200-yard games in back-to-back seasons.

TRIPLE THREAT
While he is already known for his bruising running style, junior Deuce McAllister (Morton, Miss.) has emerged as an all-around threat for the Rebels this season. McAllister is averaging 8.1 yards every time he touches the ball this season, having totalled 525 all-purpose yards in five games. Slowed by a bruised shoulder earlier this season, McAllister has rushed for 243 yards on 47 carries, caught nine passes for 87 yards and has returned nine kickoffs for an average of 21.7 yards per return. This past Saturday against Tulane, McAllister recorded 100 all-purpose yards, gaining 36 on the ground, catching three passes for 20 yards and returning two kickoffs for 44 yards. McAllister recorded a season-high 181 all-purpose yards against Vanderbilt on Sept. 18, rushing nine times for 88 yards, catching two passes for eight yards and returning four kickoffs for 85 yards.

REBELS SECOND IN THE NATION AGAINST THE RUN
Ole Miss' rushing defense ranks first in the SEC and second in the latest NCAA statistics, yielding an average of 45.0 yards per game. Ole Miss held Tulane to 16 yards rushing on 23 attempts this past Saturday to mark the seventh straight game, including last December's Sanford Independence Bowl, that the Rebels have held their opponents to less than 100 yards rushing. Mississippi State was the last team to register at least 100 yards rushing against the Rebels, gaining 123 yards on the ground in last year's regular season finale.

SACK ATTACK
The Rebels had one quarterback sack against Tulane to extend their streak to 17 straight regular season games with at least one QB sack. The last time Ole Miss didn't register at least one sack was in the 1997 regular-season finale at Mississippi State.

Through six games this season, Ole Miss has registered 23 QB sacks, just one shy of last season's total of 24. Senior DT Kendrick Clancy (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) leads the team in sacks with six for 37 yards. The Rebels' 23 sacks ranks second in the conference.

TURNOVERS TELL THE TALE SATURDAY
Ole Miss forced four turnovers this past Saturday against Tulane and outscored the Green Wave 10-3 off turnovers to provide the seven-point margin in the Rebels' 20-13 win. The first turnover Ole Miss forced also prevented Tulane from scoring on the game's first possession when senior SS Ronnie Heard (Lake Jackson, Texas) stripped receiver JaJuan Dawson of the ball at the Ole Miss one-yard line and senior LB Al Rice (Hattiesburg, Miss.) recovered the fumble in the end zone for a touchback. The Rebels then went on a 15-play, 73-yard march capped by junior Les Binkley's (Memphis, Tenn.) 24-yard FG to take a 3-0 lead. For Rice, it was the second straight week he has recovered a fumble. He recovered a fumble and returned it 37 yards for a TD against South Carolina on Oct. 2. Later in the fourth quarter, sophomore DT Anthony Sims (Memphis, Tenn.) recovered a Tulane fumble at the Green Wave 19-yard line, and five plays later, Joe Gunn scored from eight yards out to give the Rebels a 20-10 lead. The fumble recovery was the first of Sims' career.

For the season, Ole Miss had done a good job of capitalizing on opponents' miscues. The Rebels have outscored their opponents 38-10 off turnovers and have a takeaway/giveaway ratio of +3 (see chart on page 5).

ALABAMA REBELS
Ole Miss has eight players on its roster that hail from the state of Alabama: senior DT Kendrick Clancy (Tuscaloosa, Ala.), freshman DE Barnabas Harris (Birming-ham, Ala.), junior LB Shawn Johnson (Brewton, Ala.), sophomore QB David Morris (Mobile, Ala.), freshman OL Don Prince (Huntsville, Ala.), freshman C Matthew Walker (Mobile, Ala.), freshman RB Robert Williams (Gadsden, Ala.).

MISSISSIPPI CRIMSON TIDE
According to its 1999 media guide, Alabama has eight players on its roster that hail from the Magnolia State: Sophomore P Brian Barlow (Harrisville, Miss.), senior DT Jamie Carter (Philadelphia, Miss.), sophomore FL Freddie Milons (Starkville, Miss.), sophomore CB Reggie Myles (Pascagoula, Miss.), junior DE Kenny Smith (Meridian, Miss.), junior LT Rob-E Staten (Pearl, Miss.), Junior DT Carlos Stennis (Meridian, Miss.), freshman TE David Voyles (Ripley, Miss.).

McALLISTER NAMED TO AFCA GOOD WORKS TEAM
Deuce McAllister was one of four SEC players to be named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) 1999 Good Works Team. The team honors athletes who show exceptional dedication to community service and to the betterment of the communities in which they live. Athletic ability or statistics were not part of the criteria.

Among McAllister's contributions to the Oxford community have been visiting children at the Mother Goose Day Care Center, helping build a community playground and being a mentor at Bramlett Elementary School. McAllister has also served as a basketball referee for the Mississippi Special Olympics in Decatur, Miss., been a football camp counselor at middle and high schools in Jackson, Miss., and this past December during Ole Miss' trip to the Independence Bowl, McAllister visited the local children's hospital in Shreveport, La.
