Ole Miss Takes Sixth At Tiger Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn.--In their last outing before the SEC Championships in two weeks, the Ole Miss Rebel cross country team finished sixth in the field of nine teams at the University of Memphis Tiger Invitational.

Freshman Matt Carter paced the Rebels with a 25th place finish in a time of 27:44 in the 8K race. Sophomore Hank Campbell finished close behind, with a time of 28:02 and a 27th place finish.

Other finishers for the Rebels included sophomore Marcus Christoffersen in 30th place (28:37), freshman Chris Blackburn in 37th place (29:36), freshman Jim Morrison in 46th place (31:30) and junior Ben Chisman in 48th place (31:46).

Southern Mississippi finished the meet in first, with a team score of 21. David Rop of Jackson State took away top honors with a time of 24:40, followed by a quintet of Southern Mississippi runners.

The Ole Miss cross country team will now take part in the SEC Championships on October 30 in Nashville, Tenn. The teams hope to improve over last season's results. A year ago, the Rebels finished sixth of the ten teams competing while the Lady Rebels finished 12th of the 12 teams.
