OXFORD, Miss. - After defeating LSU 42-23 last Saturday, the Ole Miss Rebels now turn their attention to the Arkansas Razorbacks who visit Vaught-Hemingway Stadium this Saturday in a Southeastern Conference showdown. The game will kickoff at 5 p.m. CST and will be nationally televised by ESPN 2.
The 23rd-ranked Rebels enter the game at 6-2 overall and 3-2 in SEC play, while the Razorbacks are 24th in the nation and have a 5-2 overall record and are 2-2 in the conference.
"I think we are playing the most balanced team that we have played so far this year," Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe said at his Monday press conference. "Arkansas is outstanding on offense, outstanding on defense and excels in the kicking game. We have a great challenge in front of us this week."
Running backs Deuce McAllister and Joe Gunn lead the Rebels into action this Saturday after having both run for more than 100 yards in last Saturday's victory over LSU.
McAllister rushed for 140 yards on 25 carries with two touchdowns against LSU, while Gunn carried the ball 19 times for 135 yards and two touchdowns.
The game marked the second time in the past two years that both backs have rushed for 100 yards in the same game. The duo posted 100-yard performances against Arkansas State last year.
"I think Deuce and Joe are an outstanding 1-2 punch," Cutcliffe said. "They compliment each other really well. They have somewhat different styles and can cause a lot of problems for defenses."
The Rebels will be looking to beat an Arkansas team that has won four of the last five meetings between the teams, including a 34-0 win in Fayetteville last year.
The Razorbacks are coming off a 34-10 victory over Auburn last Saturday and are led on offense by quarterback Clint Stoerner and receiver Anthony Lucas.
Stoerner has completed 57.3 percent of his passes this season and thrown for 1,418 yards and 14 touchdowns. Lucas has hauled in 19 receptions this season for 472 yards and four touchdowns.
This Saturday's game marks the 46th meeting between the two teams with the Razorbacks holding a 23-21-1 edge over the Rebels.
