OXFORD, Miss. -- Saundra Jackson, a 6-4 post player from Beaufort, S.C., has signed a national letter of intent to attend Ole Miss beginning in the 2000-01 academic year, Lady Rebel head coach Ron Aldy announced Tuesday. Jackson is the Lady Rebel third signee of the early signing period.
Jackson hails from Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Fla. She is currently averaging 12 points and 10 rebounds per game for the Lady Commodores, who finished 31-4 last year and placed fourth at the National JUCO Tournament.
"Saundra helps fill our needs in the post area," Aldy said. "She is a true post player who is an excellent athlete, handles the ball well and can run the floor. We feel like Saundra will be an outstanding post player for us and in this league. We look for her to have a great year at Gulf Coast Community College as she helps lead the Lady Commodores to national success, along with fellow signee, and teammate Sherika Wright."
At Battery Creek High School, Jackson led her team to the State Championship her junior and senior years.
Jackson joins Gulf Coast Community College teammate Sherika Wright, and Tywanna Inmon of West Memphis, Ark., as the early signees for the Ole Miss women's basketball team.
The Lady Rebels open the regular season this Friday against the University of Memphis at 5:00 p.m. in Tad Smith Coliseum. That game is part of a doubleheader with the men's team, who will play Jacksonville State at 7:30 p.m.
