OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team will host the University of Memphis in its season opener Friday at 5:00 p.m. in Tad Smith Coliseum as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.

Ole Miss won both of its exhibition games, a 99-94 win over the Houston Jags, and a 68- 54 win over the Australia Riverland Raiders. Senior Frankie Boyd led the Lady Rebels in both exhibition games, scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds in the first game and then 14 points and eight rebounds against the Australians.

The Lady Rebels posted a 15-13 overall record last season with the nation's seventh toughest schedule, and earned a berth in the Women's NIT. They defeated six teams that went to the NCAA Tournament and also beat WNIT Champion Arkansas on the road.

Memphis finished the 1998-99 season with a 22-10 overall record and advanced to the semifinals of the WNIT. The Lady Tigers won both their preseason games, defeating the Houston Flights 88-86 in overtime, and the Mississippi All-Stars 82-64.

This will be the 39th meeting between the two schools. Ole Miss leads the overall series 27-11. Last year, the Lady Rebels defeated Memphis 70-68 in Memphis.
