OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team, behind the play of several freshman and newcomers, defeated Arkansas-Little Rock 68-56 Tuesday at Tad Smith Coliseum. The Lady Rebels improved to 4-1 on the year, while UALR dropped to 1-3.

Sophomore Von Kirk led the Lady Rebels with a career-best 13 points including three three-pointers, five rebounds and seven assists. Freshman Shayla Day scored a career-high 11 points and nine rebounds in 17 minutes of action.

"I don't know if we were sick or tired, but we offer no excuses for what happened tonight," head coach Ron Aldy said. We've got to improve in some areas and learn to fight for everything. We had three or four players that played some solid minutes for us."

The Trojans led for about six minutes in the first half, never by more than five. The Lady Rebels regained the lead 14-13, with 11:50 to go in the half on a three-pointer by Heather Bantz. Kirk gave Ole Miss an eight point lead (30-22) with 6:36 remaining, but UALR went on a 12-7 run down the stretch to cut it to 37-34 at halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Rebels led by seven on three occasions, but the Trojans got it down to three with 13:16 left on a 6-2 run. Ole Miss answered with a 12-3 run capped off by a Becky Myatt three, to go up by 12 with 7:50 left in the game. Arkansas-Little Rock never got any closer.

Quasha Burley and Mediha Skoro each had double-doubles on the night to lead UALR. Skoro finished with 15 points and 11 boards, while Burley scored 15 points and 10 rebounds. Andrea Haris dished out seven assists.

Ole Miss managed only 29.2 percent from the field, while UALR shot 47.9 percent. The Lady Rebels outrebounded the Trojans 54-43.
