Ole Miss Falls Short At LSU, 3-0

BATON ROUGE, La.--Despite 11 kills by junior Kira Zschau, the Ole Miss Lady Rebel volleyball team could manage only 38 total kills as they fell 3-0 (15-12, 15-8, 15-5) to the Lady Tigers of LSU on the road Friday night.
The Lady Rebels (9-17, 0-12 SEC) will now travel to Fayetteville, Ark. to take on the 24th-ranked Lady Razorbacks of the University of Arkansas. The Lady Tigers improve to 15-12 overall and 6-6 in the Southeastern Conference.
In the first game, Ole Miss came out strong with 20 kills and only two errors, matching LSU point for point until LSU took the advantage at 11 and held on for the 15-12 victory. The Lady Rebels picked up five blocks and 22 digs, the team high for the match.
Ole Miss came out on top 4-0 in the second game before LSU rallied back to tie. The Lady Tigers then went on to storm through the game. The Lady Rebels could manage only eight kills to their 10 errors and hit in negative numbers for the only time in the match.
After the intermission, the Lady Rebels failed to convert on their 10 kills and dropped the match 15-5.
Ole Miss was led by Zschau, the only Lady Rebel with a double digit kill mark. Senior Lisa Frannino had the team's only double digit dig mark with 11, also adding 19 assists. She now needs just 87 assists to become the all-time Ole Miss assist leader.
LSU leads the overall series 32-7, dating back to its first meeting in 1977, and won both meetings with the Lady Rebels this season.
Ole Miss will take on Arkansas on Sunday at 2:00 p.m., who defeated the Lady Rebels 3-0 in the first meeting this season. Ole Miss has only defeated Arkansas once in the 12 previous meetings, with that victory coming in 1994.
