OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss second baseman Brad Henderson was selected as an Honorable Mention to the 1999 National Collegiate Baseball Writers All-America team, the NCBWA announced Thursday.
A senior this past season, Henderson led the Rebels with a .388 average and hit 11 home runs with a team-high 48 RBI. He became the first Ole Miss player to record 100 hits in a season, tallying 101 to break David Dellucci's single-season record for hits of 94 set in 1995. Henderson also established a new school single-season mark for doubles with 24 to break Chris Snopek's 1992 record of 21.
"With the consistency he displayed over his four years here, and the leadership he brought to the team, Brad is very deserving of his honor," said Ole Miss head coach Pat Harrison, who concluded his third-year with the Rebels.
A 24th-round draft pick of Oakland in last week's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, Henderson finished his career with a .371 batting average. He also leaves as the Rebels' all- time leader in hits, doubles, runs scored and total bases. Henderson is expected to be assigned to Oakland's Class A affiliate in Medford, Ore., the Southern Oregon Timberjacks of the short season Northwest League.
