OXFORD, Miss.--Phil Caravia, Peter Pugh, Ryan Schwartz and Haymes Snedeker of the Ole Miss men's golf team were named to the SEC Men's Golf Academic Honor Roll, SEC Commissioner Roy Kramer announced Wednesday. The four SEC Academic Honor Roll members for Ole Miss are the most ever in one year for the Rebels.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year or for his career, be a sophomore or higher in academic classification and have 24 semester or 26 quarter hours toward a degree.

"I am happy to place four members of the team on the SEC Academic Honor Roll," Ole Miss head coach Woody Cowart said. "These guys have worked hard this year, not only on the course but in the classroom as well."

Caravia, a freshman from Belleville, Ill. (redshirted last year and is a sophomore by academic classification), has a 3.42 GPA in Banking and Finance/Managerial Finance. Caravia made the UMAA honor roll last year and in the 1997 fall semester. This year, he has played in three tournaments for the Rebels.

Pugh, a junior from Grenada, Miss. (redshirted last year and is a senior by academic classification), owns a 3.08 GPA in Managerial Finance. Pugh was named to the 1997 SEC Academic Honor Roll and is a past member of the UMAA Honor Roll. He has played in six tournaments this year and has one top 20 finish.

Schwartz, a senior from Hillsboro, Ill., has a 3.12 GPA in Leisure Management. He played in three fall tournaments for the Rebels and has been named to the Dean's Honor Roll in the past.

Snedeker, a junior from Nashville, Tenn. (a senior by academic classification), is now a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, also making the team in 1996 and 1997. He owns a 3.28 GPA in General Business and has made the Chancellor's Honor Roll and UMAA Honor Roll in the past. Snedeker is third on the team in stroke average with a 74.13 and has one top five, one top 10 and five top 20 finishes on the year.

The Rebels will compete in the SEC Championships at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga., Friday through Sunday.
