Oxford, Mississippi, is known for its unique blend of small-town charm and big-city sophistication. It is a village where excitement mingles with lovely, quiet, tree-lined streets and historic homes. In Oxford, one will always find something to do or the perfect spot to do nothing.

Located an easy hour's drive south of Memphis, Tenn., Oxford is a great place for a weekend getaway or week-long meetings. Accommodations range from modern motels to quaint bed and breakfasts. Excellent restaurants line every corner, serving down-home Southern goodies or fine cuisine.

The downtown area, which centers on the Oxford Square, thrives with distinctive shops, restaurants and landmarks.

Even small communities within Lafayette County provide big surprises. The tiny town of Taylor is home to many artists. World-famous patrons hang out at its grocery/catfish restaurant. Abbeville has a nationally-reviewed bait shop/gas station/grocery/cafe, and even smaller Yocona boasts a remodeled grocery serving specialty dinners.

If outdoors is more your style, one of the best bass and crappie fishing areas is only a few minutes away at Sardis Lake. Sardis and nearby Wall Doxey State Park offer hiking, picnicking and camping also.

Cultural opportunities abound through the University of Mississippi. Rowan Oak, William Faulkner's home, and the annual Faulkner Conference attract visitors from around the world.

Sports fans appreciate the excitement of Southeastern Conference competition as the Ole Miss Rebels host nationally-ranked powerhouses in a wide range of intercollegiate athletic competitions. Football fans say there's nothing like the feeling of a crisp autumn day when alumni and friends gather in the Ole Miss Grove for tailgate parties.

Visitors love to experience Oxford's unique blend of cosmopolitan atmosphere, activities for every interest and small-town warmth.
