Track and Field Squads Compete at Green Wave Invitational

NEW ORLEANS -- Freshmen Tristan McCord and Brandy Mack paced the Ole Miss men's and women's track and field teams at the Tulane Green Wave Invitational, held at Tad Gormley Stadium on Saturday.

McCord and Mack both recorded first-place finishes in their respective events. McCord won the 100 meters in a time of 10.83, while Mack placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.38. McCord also finished fifth in the 200 meters in a time of 22.13.

Junior Marcus Jones and freshman Savante Stringfellow also had good performances for the men's squad at Green Wave Invitational. Stringfellow placed second in the high jump (7-0) and third in the long jump (23-8). Stringfellow's 7-0 mark in the high jump ties him with Troy McKoy for the second best high jump in Ole Miss history, as Jones set a new record in the event last Saturday (April 4) with a mark of 7-0 1/4. Jones also posted two top three finishes at the Green Wave Invitational with third-place showings in both the high (6-10) and triple (47-1 3/4) jumps.

Other top finishers for the men's squad were: Willie Moore who was second in the 200 meters (21.88), Aaron Fenzel who was second in the 400 meters (48.52) and Sylvester Houston and Kyle Wallace who tied for second in the pole vault (15-0).

On the women's side, senior Susie Haverlah and freshman Emily Fontenot also turned in solid performances. Haverlah placed third in the 800 meters (2:18.96), while Fontenot was second in the high jump (5-8 Ohm). Freshmen Cheryl Faubion and Brandy Barnett both finished third in their events, with Faubion taking third place in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.83) and Barnett finishing third in the high jump (5-7).
