Baseball Drops First Game of Series to LSU

OXFORD, Miss. - LSU wrapped up the SEC Western Division title while Ole Miss' play-off hopes suffered a set back as the Tigers downed the Rebels 11-4 in Oxford Friday night. The win improved the Tigers to 41-13 on the year and 21-7 in the SEC. Ole Miss dropped to 28-23 and 11-15 in the SEC. Eddy Furniss and Trey McClure both homered to lead LSU. Furniss' solo shot in the second gave LSU a 1-0 lead while McClure broke open a 6-2 game in the sixth with a three-run shot to make it 9-2. Jake Esteves worked seven solid innings for the Tigers to move to 9-1 on the year. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits and two walks, while striking out seven. Ole Miss starter Lance Tolbert lasted just 3 1/3 innings as he was haunted by five walks. He walked the bases loaded to start the fourth and the Tigers took advantage of two hits and an Ole Miss error for four rus to take a 6-1 lead before Tolbert was lifted. Cedrick Haris and Josh Dalton both picked up three hits each to lead LSU's 12-hit attack. The two teams will play game two of their three-game series at 4 p.m. from Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
