OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss announced the signing of Grenada High School's Joseph Liberto to a national letter of intent to play baseball for the Rebels, head coach Pat Harrison announced Tuesday.
A right-handed pitcher, Liberto was 7-2 this spring with a 2.23 ERA and recorded 77 strikeouts in 47 innings to lead Grenada to an appearance in the Class 5A state playoffs. Over the past two seasons, Liberto has posted a 12-5 record.
"We're very excited that Joseph has decided to attend Ole Miss and play baseball here," said Harrison, who guided the Rebels to a 30-23 mark this spring. "We feel he will be a great addition to our pitching staff."
Liberto is the seventh signee for the Rebels during the 1997-98 academic year. Ole Miss signed five players to national letters of intent during the early fall signing period and signed Cooper Campbell, a right-hander pitcher/outfielder, from Gulfport High School to a national letter of intent last Tuesday.
