OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team announced its 1997-98 award winners at its annual banquet, held on Monday night in the Union Ballroom on the University of Mississippi campus.

Junior Tarsha Bethley (Hollandale, Miss.) received the team Most Valuable Player award. Bethley led the team in scoring and rebounding with a 17.3 points per game average and 7.2 rebounds a game. She scored in double figures in 24 games and recorded six doubles-doubles for the season. Bethley was named to the coaches All-Southeastern Conference second team and the Associated Press All-SEC third team. In addition, Bethley scored the 900th point of her career during the Auburn game (Feb. 21) and needs only 44 more points to become the 18th Lady Rebel to notch 1,000 points.

Senior Kim Rosamond was the recipient of the team's Lady Rebel Award, which is given to the player who excels on and off the court. Rosamond tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee during preseason practice and missed 10 games. She returned to the game at the Northern Lights Invitational and played in the final 20 games. Rosamond also excelled in the classroom, becoming the first Lady Rebel to be named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll all four years of her career and only the second in the history of the SEC to accomplish this feat.

Rosamond has also been named to one of the school's honor rolls every semester. Other award winners included: sophomore Sinissia Wysinger (Many, La.), Coaches Award; Miss Playmaker, Becky Myatt (Bon Aqua, Tenn.); Most Versatile, Tiffany Adkins (Yorkville, Tenn.); Best Scholar Award, Lesli Vollrath (Shreveport, La.); Best Team Player Award, Stephanie Murphy (Webb, Miss.); and Julianne Signaigo (Collierville, Tenn.) and Jennie Gadd (Yorba Linda, Calif.), Most Improved Players.

The Lady Rebels ended the 1997-98 season winning three of their last five games including a victory over Georgia in the first round of the SEC Tournament. The Lady Rebels defeated four NCAA Tournament teams including an 18-point win over Final Four qualifier Arkansas.
