OXFORD, Miss. -- Sophomore Tisha Parker and freshman Brandy Mack, members of the Ole Miss Lady Rebel track and field squad, will participate in the USA Track and Field (USATF) Championships June 19-21. The championships will be held at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans. More than 800 athletes will compete in the three-day event.
As at the NCAA Championships earlier this month, Parker will compete in the long jump, while Mack will represent Ole Miss in the 400-meter hurdles. The long jump finals will be held on Saturday beginning at 7:00 p.m. (CT), and the 400-meter hurdles preliminaries will begin on Friday at 7:05 p.m. (CT). The 400-meter hurdles semifinals will be run on Saturday at 6:40 p.m. (CT), with the finals to be held on Sunday at 2:04 p.m. (CT).
"Tisha and Brandy have worked hard all season, and both are very deserving of the opportunity to compete in USATF Championships this weekend," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "They have continued to train hard since the NCAA Championships, and I feel confident they will be ready to compete this weekend."
A Houston, Texas native, Parker qualified for the long jump competition with a mark of 21-4 1/4, which she set at the Bulldog Invitational on May 9. Her jump of 21-4 1/4 is an Ole Miss school record. Parker placed second in the long jump at the Southeastern Conference Championships with a mark of 20-10, and finished 15th in the event at the NCAA Championships with a jump of 19-7 PI. Mack, a native of Akron, Ohio, qualified for the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.35 seconds in the event. Mack set her school-record time of 58.35 seconds with a fourth-place finish in the event at the SEC Championships on May 24. The previous school record in the 400-meter hurdles was 58.57 seconds set by Stacy Hudson in 1994. At the NCAA Championships, Mack finished fifth in her qualifying heat of the 400-meter hurdles and did not advance to the finals of the event.
