Lady Rebels Down Florida Atlantic 100-77

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss Lady Rebel forward Tarsha Bethley posted 20 points, seven rebounds and a career-high eight assists en route to notching her 1000th career point as the Lady Rebel basketball team defeated Florida Atlantic, 100-77, Sunday afternoon in Tad Smith Coliseum. The Lady Rebels improved to 2-1 on the season, while Florida Atlantic dropped to 1- 2 for the year.

"There were a lot of positives today," Lady Rebel head coach Ron Aldy said. "We played hard, executed well and got a great performance from our bench. That kind of depth, is what we will need to win in the SEC."

Bethley notched the 1,000th point of her career at the 8:04 mark in the second half. She became the 18th Lady Rebel to score 1,000 points for a career.

"I was so excited today," Bethley said. "I would like to thank the team and coaches for their support. This year's team is much closer and we are working harder to improve everyday."

Ole Miss opened the game with a 15-2 run highlighted by seven points and two assists from Bethley over a 3:39 minute-span. Senior forward Leslie Vollrath scored four points during the run. Sophomore Stephanie Murphy hit a jumper with 51 seconds left in the first half, but FAU's Chantale Jones answered with a three-pointer as the Lady Rebels led 46-34 at the half .

Florida Atlantic cut the lead to 10 on a made jumper by Jill Madson at the 18:55 mark, but never got any closer as the Lady Rebels led by as much as 18 with 6 minutes to go in the game and never looked back.

The 100 points was the most scored by a Lady Rebel team since the 1994-95 season when they scored 102 points in a game against Northeast Louisiana on Jan. 17.

Becky Myatt added 13 points, Chandra Dorsey chipped in 11 points and freshman TaShondrea Moton came off the bench to score a career-high 10 points in the winning cause. Junior Frankie Boyd grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds and nearly had her first career double - double with eight points. Dorsey also had a career-high six steals in the game, while freshman Takela Corbitt dished out a career-best six assists.

Sheridan Andrews finished with 17 points to lead Florida Atlantic, while Rita Mosley had 12. Madson and Kristy Halvorsen each grabbed seven boards for the Lady Owls, who were outrebounded 49-38 by the Lady Rebels.

Ole Miss shot 49.3 percent from the floor, while Florida Atlantic shot 44.6 percent.

The Lady Rebels will travel to Orono, Maine, Thursday to participate in the Maine Blackbear Tournament. Ole Miss will face UNC-Charlotte in the first round Friday at 5:00 p.m. In the second round, they will meet the winner of the St. Bonaventure/Maine game, Saturday.
