Men's Tennis Earns Fourth-Place Ranking

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team is ranked No. 4 in the ITA National Team Rankings released Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Rebels led the nation with five players among the top 100 in singles.

Ole Miss will begin the spring season as the nation's fourth best team with this the final ranking of the fall. The Rebels became one of the nation's top teams in 1994 and have been ranked in the top 10 five consecutive years.

Stanford claimed the top spot in the rankings, followed by Georgia, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Illinois, UCLA, Texas, Pepperdine South Carolina, SMU and Duke. A total of eight teams from the Southeastern Conference are ranked among the top 25. Tennessee (12th), Florida (13th), LSU (t19th) and Alabama (21st) round out the SEC schools in the top 25.

Sophomore James Shortall leads the Rebels making his debut in the singles rankings at No. 55. Shortall finished the fall with a 16-4 overall record including a win over Tennessee's Peter Handoyo, who is ranked No. 10 in the latest rankings.

Martin Sjoqvist is ranked No. 61. He ended the fall with a 10-8 record and also had a win over Handoyo.

Anders Stenman is also making his first appearance in the national rankings, coming in at No. 74. Stenman completed the fall with a 7-4 record and posted three wins over nationally-ranked players including two in the top 20.

Vikrant Chada is ranked 89th in the rankings and freshman Martin Selin got into the rankings at 96th. Selin finished his first semester as a Rebel with a 8-5 record that included a win over a top 20 player.

In doubles, Sjoqvist and Selin are ranked No. 32. The two posted a 5-4 record this fall.
