OXFORD, Miss. - Freshman Burney Hutchinson delivered a pinch-hit, bases loaded single in the 11th inning to give Ole Miss a 6-5 victory over Florida Saturday night in a Southeastern Conference baseball game in front of 2,571 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
The win was the Rebels' second straight over the Gators and clinched their first SEC series win over Florida since taking two-of-three in Oxford back in 1990. The victory also put Ole Miss, 19-16, 9-5 SEC, three games over the .500-mark for the first time this season.
Ole Miss built a 5-0 lead after two innings but would not score again until the 11th inning.
Robert Shelton's two-run double in the first inning, highlighted the Rebels' four-run first inning. Ole Miss added a single run in the second when Chad Hill scored from second off a Florida error on Brad Henderson's sacrifice bunt attempt.
The Gators, 22-14, 6-8 SEC, crawled back in to the game by getting two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to cut the Ole Miss lead to 5-4.
Florida tied it in the ninth with back-to-back two-out doubles by Peter Nystrom and Kurt Keene off of Rebel closer Justin Huisman. Both Nystom and Keene were down to their last strike before coming through with their doubles.
Huisman, 1-0, stayed in the game to pitch the 10th and 11th innings to earn the win.
Ben Grezlovski, 6-5, suffered the loss, allowing one run on two hits and three walks. Grezlovski also fanned eight.
Keene was 3-for-6 with three RBIs as Florida out-hit Ole Miss 12-9.
Alex Williamson led Ole Miss at the plate, going 3-for-4.
Florida's Mark Ellis had his 15-game hitting streak snapped as he was held hitless in six at-bats. The Rebels' Brad Henderson saw his 10-game hitting streak broken as he was 0-for-4 on the night.
The two teams will conclude their three-game series Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Ole Miss will start junior right-hander Joey Cramblitt, 2-1, 6.32 ERA, while Florida will counter with freshman right-hander Jay Bellflower, 1-1, 5.88 ERA.
