Ole Miss to Compete in Mount SAC Relays

OXFORD, Miss. - Several members of the Ole Miss men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Walnut, Calif., to compete in the Mount SAC Relays this weekend. The relays are being hosted by Mount San Antonio College.
Over forty United States colleges and universities, as well as international teams from nine different countries will compete in this weekend's Mount SAC Relays. Several of the world's top athletes, including Marion Jones, will also participate in this weekend's meet.
"This competition at the Mount SAC Relays is going to be outstanding," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "This is one of the nation's top meets, and it attracts some of the top athletes from the United States and around the world.
"This meet will offer a great opportunity for our athletes. They will be able to compete against the best in the nation and the world, and see where they stand. We hope to do our best, and continue making progress as we head toward the SEC Championships."
Teneeshia Jones and Savante Stringfellow will lead Ole Miss into the Mount SAC Relays. Jones will compete in the 100 and 200 meters, 100-meter hurdles and will run on the Lady Rebel 4x400 meter relay team. Stringfellow will represent Ole Miss in the long jump, high jump and 4x400 meter relay.
Last Saturday, Jones and Stringfellow were named the meet's outstanding athletes at the Tom Botts Invitational, held at the University of Missouri. Jones won the 100 and 200 meters and the 100-meter hurdles at last Saturday's meet, while Stringfellow won the high and long jumps. Stringfellow's mark of 26-4 1/4 in the long jump qualified him for the NCAA Championships.
Other Lady Rebels competing in the Mount SAC Relays are Brandy Mack in the 400-meter hurdles and the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays; Dawn Dickerson in the 400 meters and 4x400-meter relay; Chika Chuku in the 800 meters; and Wanikka Vance in the 100 and 200 meters and 4x400-meter relay.
On the men's side, Alonzo Banks will compete in the 800 meters and 4x400 meter relay; Marcus Jones in the long, triple and high jumps; Bernie Kuria in the 5000 meters; Kyle Wallace in the pole vault; Willie Moore in the 100 and 200 meters and 4x100-meter relay; and Wayne Woolery in the 400-meter hurdles and 4x100-meter relay.
Last Saturday at the Tom Botts Invitational, the Ole Miss men's squad claimed eight first-place finishes and set six meet records, while the Lady Rebels won seven events and set three meet records.
