Track & Field’s Alicia Burnett Clinches Spot in NCAA 100-Meter Final

6/11/2026 | Track and Field

EUGENE, Ore. – Ole Miss women's track & field All-American senior Alicia Burnett earned a slot in the NCAA 100-meter dash final, highlighting the first day of women's competition at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field on Thursday.

Running in lane seven of the second heat, Burnett narrowly missed a first-place finish in her race, crossing the line as the runner-up at 11.03 (+0.6) to earn an auto-bid to the final. Burnett was eighth overall in a semifinal that featured a new collegiate record by Georgia freshman Adaejah Hodge (10.63). Burnett will return to the track on Saturday as one of nine runners to compete for the 2026 national title.

This marks the fourth time a Rebel sprinter has reached the national final in the women's 100-meter, joining Teneeshia Jones' fifth-place finish in 2001 and two finals appearances by Olympian McKenzie Long – a ninth-place showing in 2023 and then a national title as part of her 100/200/4x1 triple crown in 2024.

Burnett led off Thursday as Ole Miss' anchor on the 4x100-meter relay. Setting up in lane nine, the Rebel foursome of redshirt freshman Zion Lockette, freshman Patchnalie Compere, junior Royanah Farmer and Burnett moved the baton around the track in 43.20 seconds, setting a new season-best while cementing themselves as the second-fastest relay in program history.

Unfortunately, the Rebels were the first team out of Saturday's final despite a ninth-place finish, as 10th-place Florida State earned an auto-bid as the runner-up in the third and final heat. The ninth-place finish earned the Rebels Second-Team All-America status, the first career All-America honors for Lockette, Compere and Farmer.

Day three of competition in Eugene shifts back to the men's team on Friday, as reigning champion Arvesta Troupe attempts to defend his title in the high jump at 6:30 p.m. CT. on ESPN+, while Jordan Urrutia will close the night in the men's 200-meter final, scheduled for 8:37 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
