October 10, 1998
Today's game marked the second overtime game the Rebels have played this year, and the third in school history. Ole Miss is now 2-1 in overtime games, having beaten SMU, 48-41, this season, and Central Florida 24-23 in last season's opener.
Sophomore running back Deuce McAllister recorded eighth-highest single-game rushing total in school history with 188 yards on 24 carries, surpassing Showboat Boykin's 187-yard, seven-touchdown performance on 14 carries against Mississippi State in 1951. McAllister's total is also the highest by a Rebel since Dou Innocent set a school record with 242 yards against Mississippi State in 1995. This was also McAllister's first career 100-yard rushing performance.
Junior Grant Heard recorded five receptions to move into a tie for 11th-place on Ole Miss career receptions list with Tim Moffett (1981-84) with 82. Heard needs one more reception to tie Rick Kimbrough (1973-75) for 10th-place with 83.
Heard also climbed to 12th-place on school career list for receiving yards with 1,156, surpassing Roell Preston (1993-94) with 1,143. Next on the list is James Harbour (1980-84) with 1,170 yards.
Junior flanker Cory Peterson caught six passes today to move into a tie with Roell Preston (1993-94) for 16th-place on the Ole Miss career receptions list with 73. Peterson also now 968 career receiving yards, 32 yards short of 1,000 for his career.
Heard's 17-yard touchdown reception from Miller in the second quarter, marked the third straight Heard has caught a touchdown pass.
Today's captains for Ole Miss were senior center Matt Luke and junior defensive tackle Kendrick Clancy.
Junior Timothy Strickland blocked Ryan Pflunger's 35-yard field goal attempt on the play of regulation to send the game into overtime. It was the Rebels' first field goal block since Strickland blocked one against LSU last year.
Sophomore Anthony Magee intercepted his third pass of the year to end an Alabama scoring threat in the third quarter.
Sophomore Ben Craddock recorded his first, two career punts today.
The 59-yard pass from Andrew Zow to Calvin Hall was the longest pass play of the year against Ole Miss.
Ole Miss' fake punt in the second quarter marked the first time the Rebels have gained a first down off a fake punt since against Arkansas last November.
Sophomore Reagan King attempted and completed his first career pass, a 20-yarder to Sheldon Morris off a fake punt to give the Rebels a first down late in the second quarter.
Romaro Miller's pass interception in overtime marked the Rebels' first turnover since the fourth quarter of the SMU game a span of nine quarter (including the overtime period against SMU).
Alabama now leads the series with Ole Miss 37-7-2, and have won the last eight games on-the-field. Ole Miss received a forfeit win in 1993, after losing 19-14 in Oxford.
