OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss baseball team held its first day of fall workouts this afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

Third-year head coach Pat Harrison says the Rebels will spend the fall looking at their young pitching staff and working on the fundamentals.

"We'll use the fall to work on the fundamentals and to take a look at some of the young pitchers we have on our staff," Harrison said. "We have a chance to have a great season next year, and this is the time to start working towards our goals for next year."

The Rebels return six position starters and three starting pitchers from last year's team that went 30-23 and ended the year by winning two-of-three from LSU. Top returnees for the Rebels include senior second baseman Brad Henderson, a second team All-SEC selection last spring, and junior right-hander Jeff McAvoy. Henderson hit .379 with 15 home runs and 52 runs batted last season, and McAvoy posted a 5-5 record and recorded a team-leading 69 strikeouts.

Ole Miss will hold three intra-squad scrimmages this week. Scrimmages are scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Both Wednesday's and Thursday's scrimmages are set for 3 p.m. at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field, while Friday's is scheduled for 6 p.m. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.
