OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss baseball team practiced twice Monday to open spring workouts in preparation of the 1999 season.
With no classes in session because of the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday, the Rebels worked out once in the morning before hitting the field again in the afternoon. Third-year head coach Pat Harrison welcomed 36 players to the start of spring drills, including 15 newcomers.
"We had great weather today and we got to work on a lot of things," Harrison said. "We sort of hit everything. We worked on our defenses, we did some individual work, got some batting practice in, and worked on some situational things. With the weather being as nice as it was, we got a lot more in than anticipated."
Ole Miss returns six position starters, including preseason All-Americans Brad Henderson and Michael Rosamond, from a team that finished 30-23 last season. The Rebels are scheduled to open their 1999 season on Friday, Feb. 12 at Baylor. Ole Miss' first home game is set for Tuesday., Feb. 16 versus Austin Peay.
