Rebel Netters Advance at Ole Miss Indoor Championships

OXFORD, Miss. - Four members of the Ole Miss men's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals at the Ole Miss Indoor Tennis Championships Thursday, while two were still on the court as of 8:30 p.m.
James Shortall continued his excellent play of the fall upsetting Jeremy Bayon from MSU, who is ranked 43rd in the nation, 6-4, 7-6(9). Shortall will face Peter Handoyo of Tennessee in the quarterfinals.
Memphis native Ben Cousins picked up a huge win, knocking off the tournament's seventh seed Paul Podbury of Tennessee 6-3, 7-6(2). He will face teammate Martin Selin, who downed Tennessee's Chris McDonald 6-2, 6-2 in the second round.
"These guys have worked hard all fall and their progress showed today," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "Podbury played No. 1 for Tennessee most of the season last year. Bayon is one of State's most consistent performers."
After a first-round bye, Vikrant Chada rallied to defeat Mississippi State's Daniel Healey 6 7(1), 7-5, 7-5 in the second round. He will face the winner of the Anders Stenman/Matthieu Ballay match which was still going on, in the quarterfinals.
Rebel freshman Bo Petro (Madison) lost to Mathieu Soto of Mississippi State 6-3, 6-1 and will face State's Mason Greene in the first round consolation at 9:00 a.m. Friday.
In the other first-round consolation match, Vicksburg's David Blackburn will play Andy Crews of Tennessee also at 9 a.m.
