OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 5 nationally-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team will host Jacksonville State Friday at 12:30 p.m., and Southern Mississippi Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Both matches will be played in the Multi-Sport Indoor Center on the campus of the Ole Miss. The Jacksonville State match has been pushed back to 12:30 p.m. instead of the schedule time of noon.
The Rebels, 1-0, are coming off a 7-0 win over Jackson State on Wednesday. The match was the first-ever to be played in the new complex. The Rebels dropped just nine games in six singles matches. Sebastien DeChaunac, who captured the SEC singles title this past weekend, defeated Tierre Miller 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. Other singles winners for Ole Miss were Sebastien Lami, Martin Sjoqvist, Barry Hassell, Ben Cousins and David Blackburn.
The Rebels defeated Jacksonville State 7-0 last year in Memphis. In that match, the Rebels only dropped one set to the Gamecocks.
On Sunday, Ole Miss will play Southern Mississippi in a "pre-superbowl" match. They are led by freshmen Andreas Tiltscher and Dirk Reinhardt, both of Germany. Southern Mississippi plays at Mississippi State on Saturday before coming here.
"Southern Mississippi is a much improved team from last year," Head Coach Billy Chadwick said. "They made the NCAA Regionals and we are anticipating a highly-contested match."
Ole Miss defeated Southern Mississippi 7-0 last year in Oxford.
