Stringfellow Leads Men's Track to Second Place Finish

BATON ROUGE, La. - Sophomore Savante' Stringfellow won both the men's long jump and high jump to lead the Ole Miss Rebels to a second-place finish at the LSU Seven Team Invitational.
LSU won the men's team competition, outdistancing Ole Miss 147-102. Mississippi State finished third with 75 points, followed UTEP (74), Rice (40) and Southwest Louisiana (23).
Stringfellow won the long jump with a personal best mark of 24-feet-9 inches, just missing the NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 24-9.25. He won the high jump with a leap of 7-1, and senior Marcus Jones finished fifth with a jump of 6-11.5.
Jones also placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 48-11.50.
In the 3,000 meters, senior Bernard Kuria, sophomore Chad Dixon and junior Larry Henderson gave the Rebels a sweep of the top three places. Kuria finished with a time of 8 minutes, 30.29 seconds to win the event. Senior Calvin Thigpen also finished sixth in the 3,000 meters.
Senior Alonzo Banks won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.60. Senior Wayne Woollery placed fourth with a time of 1:56.35, and freshman Tyler Simon finished eighth with a time of 2:00.30.
Other top performances on the men's side, included senior Jimmy Love running to a second- place finish in the 400 meters, and junior Kyle Wallace placing second in the pole vault with a mark of 16-0.75. Sophomore Willie Moore recorded a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters and placed eighth in the 60-meter dash. Sophomore Aaron Fenzel finished sixth in both the 200 and 400 meters, and sophomore Tobias Anderson finished seventh in the 200 and eighth in the 400. Junior John Frierson placed sixth in the shot put with a personal best mark of 49-11.25.
The Rebels' 4x400-meter relay team placed finished second with a time of 3:18.13.
On the women's side, sophomore Brandy Barnett placed second in the high jump, and junior Tisha Parker placed fourth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump to lead the Lady Rebels.
The Ole Miss women finished fifth in the seven-team field with 37.5 points, ahead of UTEP (36) and Southwest Louisiana (24). LSU won the women's meet with 150 points.
Sophomore Teneeshia Jones placed fifth in both the 60-meter dash and 200 meters, and placed sixth in the 60-meter high hurdles.
Freshman Chika Chuku placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.39. Sophomore Brandy Mack and freshman Candice Cattron finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 400 meters. Freshman Wanikka Vance placed sixth behind Jones in the 200 meter, and sophomore Kelly Gable finished eighth in the 3,000-meter run.
