OXFORD, Miss.--Megan Breen and Lauren Mellen of the Ole Miss women's golf team were named to the All-SEC Second Team, and teammate Robyn Rinaldo earned All-SEC Honorable Mention honors.
Breen, a junior from Longwood, Fla., led Ole Miss with a 76.41 stroke average and earned four top five, five top 10 and nine top 20 finishes in 10 tournaments for the Lady Rebels this year. Breen is the first three-time All-SEC performer in Lady Rebel golf history, as she also captured All-SEC Honorable Mention honors in 1996 and 1997. An Academic All-SEC and Academic All-America selection, Breen captured the Beacon Woods Invitational this year (Oct. 10-12). She tied former Ole Miss golfer Sarah Britt for most top five finishes in a season by a Lady Rebel.
Mellen, a senior from Orlando, Fla., is second on the team with a 77.00 stroke average and three top five, five top 10 and seven top 20 finishes. Mellen also won All-SEC Honorable Mention in 1996 and was selected Academic All-SEC in 1997 and 1998. Mellen won the Tulane Green Wave Classic (Nov. 3-4), tying her with Chris Dacri for second-most tournament victories by a Lady Rebel with two. She also tied Dacri for lowest single-round score in Ole Miss history with a 68 in the Lady Gator Invitational (Feb. 27-March 1) and tied Rinaldo for the lowest three-round score with a 220 in the Lady Gator.
Rinaldo, a sophomore from Dade City, Fla., is third with a 77.83 stroke average and had two top five, three top 10 and five top 20 finishes this year. Rinaldo captured the Florida State Lady Seminole Classic (Sept. 12-14), where she set the Ole Miss record for lowest three-round score with a 220. Rinaldo was named All-SEC Honorable Mention last year, as she led the Lady Rebels in stroke average with a 78.25.
"I am so proud of Megan, Lauren and Robyn for their accomplishments," Ole Miss head coach Keil Purdom said. "They have worked extremely hard this year, and they are very deserving of these honors."
The Lady Rebels finished in the top 10 in all 10 tournaments this year, tying the record from the 1992-93 and 1994-95 seasons, and set an Ole Miss record seven top five finishes, including a first-place finish at the Tulane Green Wave Classic. In their last tournament, the Lady Rebels finished sixth at the SEC Championships.
