GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore Savante Stringfellow captured second in the men's long jump on the first day of competition at the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday, while Lady Rebel Tisha Parker took fourth in the women's long jump.

Stringfellow, an NCAA provisional qualifier, came into the championships leading the SEC in the long jump. He jumped 25-6 3/4 to finish second barely, to Maurice Lewis of Florida, who won it with a leap of 25-7 1/2.

In the preliminary round of the men's 800 meter race, senior Alonzo Banks ran the fastest time at 1:52.56 to qualify for the final, which will be run Sunday at 1:35 p.m. Banks entered the SECs with top-five times in the 400 meters and the 800 meters.

Senior Wayne Woolery qualified for the final of the 400 meters with a time of 48.05. That race will be run at 2:15 p.m. Woolery will also team with Banks, senior Jimmy Love and Stringfellow in an attempt to win the 1600-meter relay. The four posted an SEC-best 3:10.25 earlier this season. This time is also ranked second in the nation.

On the women's side, Parker's jump of 20-6 1/2 was good enough to earn her fourth place. Parker, who finished fifth at last year's SEC Indoor Championships is a provisional qualifier in the long jump. She will challenge for the Triple Jump title at 2:30 p.m., Sunday.

Freshman Teneeshia Jones made the finals in the 55 meters and the 200 meters. Jones ran a personal best time of 6.88 in the 55 meter dash and a career-best 24.39 in the 200 meter. Jones' time in the 55 meter dash provisionally qualifies her for NCAAs. The women's 55 meter final is scheduled for 1:25 p.m., while the 800 meter final is slated to run at 1:45.

Chika Chuku qualified for the 800 meter final with a personal record 2:12.83. That final will be run at 1:45 p.m.

After four events, the men's team is in eighth place with eight points, while the women are tied for eighth after three events with five points. Florida leads the women's side with 20 points, while Arkansas heads up the men with 43 points.
