Track Competes at Northeast Louisiana Invitational

MONROE, La. -- Ole Miss senior Jon Parry recorded four top-eight finishes as he paced the Rebels at the Northeast Louisiana Invitational on Saturday. On the women's side, freshman Cheryl Faubion led the Lady Rebels with three top-four showings.

Parry won the long jump with a team season-best mark of 24-1, and also placed second in the high jump (6-8 3/4), fifth in the javelin (164-1 ) and eighth in the discus (135-11). Faubion finished second in both the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles with times of 14.67 and 1:04.95, respectively. Both times are personal season bests for Faubion. She also was a member of the Lady Rebel 1600-meter relay team which finished fourth with a time of 4:11.97.

Freshman Savante Stringfellow had another strong meet, recording three top-seven finishes. Stringfellow won the high jump (6-8 3/4) and also placed second in the long jump (23-5 ) and seventh in the 100 meters (10.76). Other top-five finishes for the Rebels included Chad Dixon in the 1500 meters (4:01.97), Charles Dawson in the 5000 meters (15:27.30), Taylor Jabour in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:40.80), Charlie Kodat in the javelin (164-3) and Sylvester Houston in the pole vault (16-6).

For the Lady Rebels, freshman Monica Barnett had two top-10 showings, finishing second in the triple jump (37-0) and ninth in the long jump (16-6). Other top performances for the Lady Rebels were turned in by Gwen Evans in the 200 meters (4th; 24.79), Kelly Gable in the 800 meters (6th; 2:22.30) and Latasha Mabin in the 100 meters (6th; 12.44).
